Truecaller had teased a new product launch a few days ago. In an event on March 3, the company has announced that they have launched a standalone app for the personal safety of users around the world. Using the app, users can send their location to their parents, friends and even police to ensure location travel. In fact, the app is free to use. It also does not share any data with any companies.
The standalone app, Guardians by Truecaller is not integrated with Truecaller. You will have to download the app from Google Play Store or iOS. Unlike using a cab service and ending location, this feature is much more similar to WhatsApp Location sharing. Say, you want to take a public transport home, and not a cab. With Guardians, you can share your live location with your benefactors.
“Guardians was born out of a simple question – how can we crowdsource personal safety; just like the way we crowdsource protection against spam, scams and frauds with Truecaller? We also believe that we have the right tools and the conviction to make Guardians happen. Our engineering team has a proven track record of building great user experiences. We have also crossed the milestone of 270 Million active users (200 Million in India alone),” says Alan Mamedi, CEO & Co-founder of True Software Scandinavia AB. “We believe that this is a service that can be used by everyone,” said Mamedi.
How to use the Guardians app by Truecaller?
When you download the app, it will ask you to gin with your number. After that, it will ask you to send invites for the app after you select personal guardians from their contact list. Once they are added to your group, the user can share their location as "Watch Over Me" or even "I Need Help".
You can choose when to stop or start sharing location and also set up permanent sharing with the contacts that you select. Users can also share their location during a particular trip, and the app will keep working in the background. It also comes with the ability to notify your guardians to help follow your location ICE. Normally, the app shares the location intermittently, to preserve battery life. However, if you switch to emergency mode, it will share your precise location. The app will also provide location tracking even if the user has an Android phone and their benefactor have an iPhone or vice versa.
The app will work with Police as well
Not currently, but the app plans to launch a feature to help users inform the "Community Guardians" that is police in case of an emergency. With this, the company aims to crowdsource personal safety and help women, especially. The app, according to reports, also plans to enable support within the app for getting help from local law enforcement.
