Initially announced at 2016 I/O, Google is yet to release the much-awaited Android Wear 2.0, an operating system designed for smartwatches and wearables.
The tech giant was supposed to release the OS by year (2016) end. However, according to the email sent out to Google Play developers, the company might finally launch the product next month.
The email said, "Android Wear 2.0 is launching in early February 2017," and asking the developers to update their apps to support the new OS and Play Store.
The email further reads, "It includes a new on-watch Play Store to help users discover apps right on their wrist." This means instead of downloading apps through a smartphone, users can download apps directly on the watch itself. A keyboard is also included, along with the ability for apps to connect to the Internet through Wi-Fi, and a new app launcher. It will also support Android Pay on Android and iOS.
Along with Android Wear 2.0, Google is also expected to release its own smartwatches without Google or Pixel branding.
