Google Play Store will soon start offering audiobooks to its users, as reported by 9to5Mac. The report said that a banner appeared on Google Play for several users stating that audiobooks are now available on Google Play.

"At the time of publishing, that link doesn't work and simply 404's, but it seems to be appearing for all users both on the web and within the Google Play app on Android," the report reads. Additionally, the ad also said that users would get 50 percent off their first purchase of an audio book on the Play Store so it’s a good opportunity to grab a new book.

In another report, Android Police found references to audiobooks in an APK teardown of the Google Play Books app and found code for several new features, including audiobooks. It said that audiobooks and ebooks will be divided into separate tabs.

While there has been no official word regarding when the audiobook section will go live, it would be reasonable to assume that it is happening fairly soon. Google's move to enter the audiobooks market will challenge Amazon's position in the market.
