For all you music lovers, Google has rolled out a paid subscription for its Google Play Music in India.
With on-demand streaming of any song in the Google Play Music catalogue and music storage space for offline streaming, the subscription plan comes with an introductory offer of a discounted subscription offer of Rs 89 per month if you sign up within the first 45 days.
Notably, the subscription plans for other music apps like Saavn and Gaana start from Rs 99, while Apple charges Rs 120 per month for its service.
Google Play Music – the equivalent of Apple’s iTunes Store – arrived in India last year but at that time it was limited to purchases only, which meant you had to spend Rs 15 per song, or about Rs 100 per album. With the latest subscription plan, however, you can enjoy unlimited streaming and download of the content in the app.
Google is a late entrant to the streaming industry in India as compared to local players such as Saavn, Gaana and Wynk. Airtel's Wynk recently crossed the 50-million user mark on the platform. Apple Music is the only other international player in the market, after Rdio's shutdown.
Google Play Music is available across Android, iOS and the web in India featuring a music library of over 40 million unique local and international hits. You can sign up here to try Google Play Music Unlimited for Rs 89 a month. Also, you’ll get a free 15-day free trial when you subscribe.
Offering music lovers a fresh take on streaming Google Play Music offers users an offline playlist feature that is smarter, easier and less data-consuming. The playlists gets created based on the individual user's preference, activity and location. It even lets users watch the music videos right in the same app.
Elias Roman, Lead Product Manager, Google Play Music said, “With Google Play Music subscription, Indian subscribers can listen to their favourite music across a variety of languages, including Hindi, English, Tamil and more. This music can be accessed from any device with your Google Account. To make the experience deeply personalized, we’ve plugged into Google's understanding of context and machine learning to recommend the right music at the right moment based on each listener's preference, place and activity. ”
Google has integrated contextual tools in Google Play Music, tapping into the power of machine learning to recommend music based on the listener's preference, activity and location. Additionally, Google Play Music will curate hand-picked playlists to personalize music for the listeners for a variety of occasions. So if you are relaxing at home, powering through at work, working out at the gym, or exploring a new city, Google Play Music will deliver personalized music based on where you are and why you are listening.
