Google built the Google Meet software as a part of G Suite and G Suite for Education. It is available for free to everyone. Google Meet reported a record 30x usage post this lockdown. Over 30 million people video-conference daily on the app and it adds over 3 million new users every day.
That is the reason, Google Meet offered its features to all for free. Roughly two weeks ago, Google had announced that, soon, the Meet feature would be available directly through Gmail. Now, the idea has become truth and the feature is accessible via Gmail.
You can directly log in at meet.google.com for free or begin a meeting from the bottom left of your Gmail. The "Start a meeting" feature will open a new window with a meeting ID and password which you can share. Or, you can plan meetings via Google calendar. Either way, Meet just became simple to use.
Also, initially, this G-Suite feature was paid, but it is available for free to anyone having a Gmail ID.
