Google Maps is getting a makeover. The company announced in a blog that they have updated the driving, navigation, transit and explore maps to better highlight the information most relevant to each experience (think gas stations for navigation, train stations for transit, and so on).
Google also said that Maps would get an updated color scheme with new icons added to more easily identify places like a church, cafe, museum or hospital not just by their symbol, but also with a corresponding color to make it even easier to identify.
The company also noted that specific points of interest, whether it be a coffee shop or a museum, will now be graced with their own unique icons and colors, thus making it easier for users to find what they’re looking for, even when exploring a completely new area.
The changes will be rolled out slowly to other apps that incorporate Google Maps, including the Assistant, Search, Earth, and Android Auto. They will also be incorporated into the apps, websites, and experiences offered by companies that use Google Maps APIs.
