Following in the footsteps of other tech giants like Apple, Amazon and Microsoft, Google too seems to be working on an India-focused strategy.
The search engine company that debuted its premium smartphone series- Pixel a couple of years back is planning to launch a mid-range Pixel phone in India, according to an ET report. India is one of the fastest growing smartphone markets in the world and every tech major wants to have sizeable share in it. In October 2017, India overtook the US as the world's second largest smartphone market behind China.
The new mid-range Pixel smartphone is expected to be launched sometime in July-August and will play a key role in cementing Google’s name as a hardware manufacturer in the country. Besides the smartphone, there are other consumer products too on the anvil, including smart speakers, the Pixelbook and intelligent home automation products like its Nest products- doorbell, alarm system, and smoke detector.
Google is also expected to spend a lot on marketing for its consumer products, with plans to take on rivals as Apple, Samsung and Amazon. Citing retailers who took part in Trade meets that happened in Malaysia, the US and the UK, the report says that the company will expand along the Reliance Jio 4G network to “realize the maximum potential of the products”.
Apple has also increased its India focus in the last few years, and has started assembling iPhones in India.
