In order to keep up with the growing smart screen market, Google is building a tabletop smart screen named 'Manhattan' which would give competition to Amazon's Echo Show. The device would offer YouTube, Google Assistant, Google Photos and support video calling.
The device will come with a 7-inch screen and run on an Android version, which will make it easier for developers to build apps for it. One app which might run on the smart screen is the Netflix.
It will also act as a smart hub for Nest and other smart home devices, as reported by TechCrunch. The smart screen was initially planned to release in the middle of 2018, but due to the Echo Show, there was intense internal pressure to get it launched in 2017, though it might end up releasing in 2018.
Earlier this week, Google chose to remove Youtube from Amazon's Echo Show as it violates the terms and services of Google and creates a broken user experience. "Google has chosen to no longer make YouTube available on Echo Show, without explanation and without notification to customers. There is no technical reason for that decision, which is disappointing and hurts both our customers," Amazon said.
