MUMBAI, INDIA: The Government of India and not the Telecom Authority of India, will take a final decision on Net Neutrality.
The statement was made by Ravi Shankar Prasad, Telecom Minister, during the calling attention motion on Net Neutrality in the Rajya Sabha today.
"Whatever be the outcome of the consultation paper (of TRAI) the decision will be taken by government," he said.
Responding to a question, Prasad said, "The government stands for ensuring non-discriminatory access to Internet for all citizens of the country. The current debate on net neutrality should be seen from this perspective. We should look at resolving the issue harmoniously and consistently with constitutional principles.
Meanwhile, the DoT has appointed a six-member committee to study the issue and is likely to submit its report by mid-May.
