The year 2016 will mark the end of the road for many Yahoo flagships. Presenting its first quarter report for 2016, Yahoo announced to shut down of several of its products and regional websites. For the ship sailing in rough waters, the objective is to ““streamline our editorial offering” and the company now aims at concentrating on its seven core products only- Mail, Search, Tumblr, News, Sports, Finance, and Lifestyle.

The closing down that begins in a couple of days will first see shutting down of Yahoo Games site and publish channel on May 13, 2016. The company will stop all its in-game purchases from next week and game publishers have already been intimated to make transition plans for those who have made purchases. All countries including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the U.K., and the U.S. will be impacted by it.

Yahoo will also be ceasing operations for its BOSS JSON Search API, BOSS Hosted Search, BOSS Placefinder and Placespotter APIs, from March 31, 2016. It is now suggesting developers to try YPA, a JavaScript solution for publishers who manage their own search engine results pages, and Yahoo Mobile Developer Suite.

March will also see shut down of Yahoo live text, video chat app which was launched last July.
