Logistics is the bread and butter of e-commerce companies, which also costs them the highest, eventually influencing the revenue. To tackle this problem, Walmart-owned Jet.com proposed a discount offer to encourage customers to order multiple products that can be shipped in a single box.

Now, our homegrown e-commerce company, Flipkart is also reportedly planning to follow the strategy to reduce logistics costs.

According to ET, Flipkart will offer discounts to customers who opt to get multiple products in a single box. The e-tailer is expected to roll out this feature later this month.

A spokesperson told ET "Courier price slab changes with every 500 g. For example, a pair of shoes typically comes in a 1.5 kg box volumetrically but the box is partially empty as it only occupies 1 kilogramme and one hundred grams volumetric so you still end up paying a cost of the 400 grams. So Flipkart will suggest consumers, say a T-shirt or toiletries that can be included to complete the 1.5 kg."

After losing market share, Flipkart is coming up with many new offerings to survive the battle against Amazon. Flipkart also introduced its own private label brand – Flipkart Smart Buy last week in order to improve its margins.

With the introduction of such services and feature, let's hope the company wins back its lost market share.
