Facebook's Instant Games platform which was launched in 2016, has been made available to all developers. The Instant Games platform lets developers build and monetize games for the News Feed as well as Messenger.
The Facebook Instant Games Platform is an HTML5 cross-platform gaming experience which does not require players to download or use any third-party plugins to play the games. Along with a dedicated games bookmark on Facebook, users can find the games using their controller icons on Messenger.
The platform has added new features including ads-based monetisation such as interstitial and rewarded video ads, ads optimisation and measurement tools, the ability to cross-promote within the Instant Games platform through the Game Switch API, and more. Another interesting feature is an ad unit for user acquisition, enabling developers to pick up new users across the social network. In-app purchases are also currently going under limited testing.
Along with these updates, the company has made lots of general improvements in order to ready the platform for broad developer availability. That includes making it easy for developers to submit and launch games directly on the platform, enable players to sign up for both subscriptions and add home screen shortcuts to help with re-engagement, making updates to in-game leaderboards and more.
