CIOL Facebook usurps Airbnb as the best tech company to work for in 2017: Glassdoor

Every year in the month of December, Career website Glassdoor releases its annual Employees’ Choice Awards, a list of the 50 best companies to work for in the coming year. To no one’s surprise, Facebook bagged the top spot as the number one tech company to work for in 2017, usurping Airbnb.

Mark Zuckerberg’s company is followed by Google. Notably, Twitter is off this list which isn’t a surprise either given the tough times its going through. Last year’s winner Airbnb’s dropped to #35 position with a downfall in ratings from 4.6 to 4.2. Ratings are based on a five-point scale, from 1.0 as very dissatisfied to 5.0 as very satisfied.

20 tech companies have made in the top 50 this year which is slightly less from 21 tech companies last year. Other biggies in Tech include SAP (#15), Adobe (#9), Akamai (#25), Apple (#36) and Microsoft (#37).

The Employees’ Choice Awards are based on the input of employees who choose to provide feedback (at least 1,000 must respond) on their job, work environment, and company via an anonymous online company review survey. Glassdoor then uses a “proprietary algorithm” to determine an overall ranking “based on the quantity, quality, and consistency of reviews.”

The parameters for judgment include the best reasons to work for a given company, the downsides, how satisfied they are with their company overall, how they feel their CEO is leading the company, as well as key workplace attributes like career opportunities, compensation, benefits, culture, values, senior management, and work-life balance.

Here are all the 20 tech companies who have made it to the list this year:

• Facebook (#2, 4.5 rating)
• Google (#4, 4.4 rating)
• World Wide Technology (#5, 4.4 rating)
