Aiming to give a new messaging experience to the desktop users, Facebook is integrating the Messenger app into its desktop version.

For those who are concerned that Facebook's latest move might be a 'test', fret not, the update has already been rolled out to many users in different parts of the world, thus cutting out the possibility of being a 'test'.

Now, instead of the old speech box icon, you will see Messenger icon on your Facebook desktop. On clicking, you will be taken to a new inbox, where you can view all your messages in Messenger.

The left side of the screen reads “Messenger” above the list of your friends, the centre will display the chat, whereas, on the right side, you will see a number of new customization options, including the options to change the conversation’s theme, edit nicknames, change the emojis, mute notifications, and search within the chat thread. You can also make voice and video calls.

Though Facebook has already rolled out the update, the company is yet to make any official announcement. Moreover, many users are asking Facebook to bring back the old inbox version.

David Marcus, Messenger's head, wrote in his post, “We basically want to satisfy the task of harmonising the user experience and the capabilities of Messenger across all platforms.” He adds the main requests people have is to change the formatting of paragraphs in longer messages in conversation threads, improve how search works, filter messages by “unread,” and improve photo sharing and consumption."

Facebook, which now has over a billion users, has seen a number of updates in recent months, including many 'Snapchat-inspired' updates. So, desktop users can also expect many of the Snapchat features in the coming future.
