Umang Bedi, Facebook's Managing Director, India & South Asia, has resigned, the company announced in a statement. Sandeep Bhushan, director, consumer and media, South Asia has been named the interim managing director.
"We confirm that Umang Bedi will be leaving his role at Facebook at the end of this year. He has built a really strong team and business during his time with us, and we wish him all the best," Facebook said.
Bedi joined Facebook in June 2016, succeeding Krithiga Reddy, who moved to the company’s headquarters in the US. Before Facebook, he was the managing director—South Asia at Adobe Systems.
Though Bedi has given no official statement on his resignation and future plans, he may start an entrepreneurial venture of his own.
India is one of the key markets for Facebook with second largest user base globally, after the United States.
