If you have been experiencing sudden battery drainage in your smartphone, Facebook Messenger is probably the culprit behind it.
Many other Android users have also been facing a dramatic spike in power consumption, which is not the intended battery consumption rate for Facebook's apps. While some users complained that Facebook and Messenger apps have collectively drained 20 percent of their battery, others reported drainage of 1 percent every minute when Facebook Messenger was active.
David Marcus, the vice president of messaging products on Facebook, responded to the trails of complaints and said the issue has been fixed on Messenger.
Did something happen to the @facebook Android apps? Suddenly my phone is super hot (not in a good way) and battery dies after 3 hours. :(

@bestsportnascar @alxpap issue was isolated and fixed server side. If you restart Messenger the problem should be gone now. Very sorry. — David Marcus (@davidmarcus) January 10, 2017
Marcus also suggested beta version users to update the app with the standard version.
