Facebook has acquired ''tbh, a polling app targeted at teens, for an undisclosed amount. The social network will also allow the app to operate somewhat independently with its own brand.
'tbh'- to be honest, allows users 13 years old and over to send each other positive feedback through anonymous, quiz-style polls. The app is geared basically toward teenagers, and has been a viral hit in the US.
The tbh team wrote in an announcement post that “When we met with Facebook, we realized that we shared many of the same core values about connecting people through positive interactions. Most of all, we were compelled by the ways they could help us realize our vision and bring it to more people.” 'tbh' had scored 5 million downloads and 2.5 million daily active users in the past nine weeks with over 1 billion poll answers since officially launching in August.
Though the terms of the deal have not been disclosed, tbh co-founders- Nikita Bier, Erik Hazzard, Kyle Zaragoza, and Nicolas Ducdodon, will move to Facebook’s headquarters, and continue working on the app, Business Insider reported.
“tbh and Facebook share a common goal — of building community and enabling people to share in ways that bring us closer together. We’re impressed by the way tbh is doing this by using polling and messaging, and with Facebook’s resources tbh can continue to expand and build positive experiences,” Facebook said in a statement.
tbh adds to Facebook's growing acquisition list of popular audience destinations like WhatsApp and Instagram. It will get the social network some arsenal to take on Snapchat that is considered to be the most popular social network among teens.
