Facebook has acquired a California based startup Nascent Objects that offers what the company calls a “modular electronics platform” — essentially a software program to build physical gadgets, including 3D-printed hardware.
Founded in 2014, Nascent Objects, combines various new-age technologies such as hardware design, circuitry, 3D printing and modular electronics, in order to let developers go from concept to prototype quickly. One of its aims also include making hardware development as easy and painless as software.

The startup will join Facebook’s Building 8 lab after acquisition. Nascent, kind of dovetails in this part of the social networking giant’s operations, as it will provide the resources and funding to help expand Objects’ modular system, while also giving it a home where it should be put to fairly consistent use across a range of different types of projects, without the startup having to focus on customer acquisition.
“We’ve decided to continue our mission at Facebook and Building 8. We’re excited to build products that can open the world to everyone and create on a scale we couldn’t have imagined before,” said Baback Elmieh, CEO, Nascent Objects.
Facebook did not disclose the deal terms for the acquisition, but Nascent Objects founder and CEO Baback Elmieh is joining Facebook along with “other key members” of the startup, according to a FB spokesperson, reports Recode.
