Where there's a will, there's a way! Well, we might have been ruing the fact that the Former GE CEO has refused to captain Uber's ship, but looks like the ride-hailing company has found its leader amidst rough waters.
Dara Khosrowshahi, the current CEO of Expedia, has been officially offered the job to be Uber's next CEO, as first reported by Recode. The relatively unknown, Khosrowshahi, 48, has been CEO of Expedia for 12 years but outside Silicon Valley. Expedia is based in Bellevue, Washington.
Under his leadership Expedia has grown to a $23 billion giant with a presence across the world. Revenue has jumped from $2.1 billion in in 2005 to $8.7 billion in 2016.
Khosrowshahi is an Uber's board pick though no official announcement has been made so far. He would be replacing Travis Kalanick, who resigned in June following pressure from shareholders.
Kalanick's resignation came after months of controversies and scandals that brought a lot of bad publicity to the world's most valuable privately held company. This was apart from the myriads of lawsuits against the company including sexual harassment cases and trade infringement case with Waymo.
Prior to running Expedia, Khosrowshahi was the CFO at IAC, the internet and media conglomerate chaired by Barry Diller. IAC bought Expedia in 2003, then spun it out into Khosrowshahi's hands in 2005.
