Empowering AI Processing: Shaping the Future

AI is among the hottest topics, the intelligence that lets the machine make better decisions. These machines require additional capabilities to run multiple tasks simultaneously to bring one outcome which is actionable.

The smartphone industry seems to adopt the intelligence and bringing devices with AI camera and other benefits. Recently MediaTek announced its new Helio P70, multi-core APU, that operates up to 525MHz and combined with MediaTek NeuroPilot enhancements plus a new, intelligent multi-threading scheduler at India Mobile Congress.

We experienced the chipset at the event and discussed with Anku Jain, MD, MediaTek India, talking about AI, IoT and P70 innovation to understand what we can expect in near future.

Compare to P60, how P70 takes processing a level ahead?

P70 follows P60 our other chip which launched earlier this year and we had a very good success with P60. With P60 we got many customers like Panasonic, Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi, Nokia and Realme and so on. It was a great success for us. With P70 we want to continue the legacy with better performance in terms of CPU, GPU and AI as well. So we are hoping that we can continue the great work that P60 did. I think the customer base will increase with P70 because it is better than P60.

The P70 has a dedicated AI Processing Unit. In P70 we have multi-core APU which can help in improving the performance from 10% to 30%. P70 is more efficient and tuned for AI applications to provide better performance.

Why P70 is way better than P60?

One of the reasons for the faster performance is multi-core APU. It has multi-threaded scheduler delivers 10-30% more AI processing efficiency than the previous P60. It can do multitasking at the same time in the APU. So this is the main reason that we are able to provide better performance compared to p60 this also results in higher clock speed in P70 for better performance compared to its predecessor.

Can we expect premium performance at a lower cost?

MediaTek has been working on ‘New Premium’ which means giving feature-rich devices at affordable price points. We like to provide world-class technology at an affordable price. So that we can reach more and more consumers and that has helped us in selling more than 1.5 billion chipsets per year which is a very big number. Going by that we feel that even though price points are low but performance are quite good and good enough for the consumers to like our products.
