CoWIN Portal now allows you to Edit Name, Gender, Birth Year on Vaccine Certificate

The Central Government has announced a big update regarding corrections and edits in incorrect mention of the name, gender and birth year on vaccine certificate. The tweet, on the Aarogya Setu App's Twitter handle, stated that users can make corrections in two out of three given conditions - Name, Gender and Year of Birth.

On April 13, The Hindu reported that RS Sharma, Chairman, Empowered Group on COVID vaccination confirmed that they will soon launch software that will allow correction of information on final vaccination certificates. He had stated that the software would be in place within the next couple of days. Further, it would allow some minor changes in the spelling of a name or mistakes in the surname etc.

According to the interaction, Dr Sharma also said that the current system record an Immutable Vaccination Event Record (IVER). “If we allow it to be changed, then all kinds of problems could occur. People can misuse it to get the certificate by changing the names of the person etc. Hence, we did not have any provision for change in the IVER. The change we are putting in place, through deploying a patch, allows correction of spelling errors in a name or gender ,” he added.

The software patch is finally here!

How to edit Name, Gender or Birth Year on the Vaccine Certificate?

Step 1: Log in with the registered mobile number on selfregistration.cowin.gov.in. Enter the OTP you receive and the portal will display the dashboard. Now, in the top-right corner, you can see a tab - "Raise and Issue", click on it.

Step 2: When you click on "Raise and Issue", you will get a page with the title "Correction in Vaccine Certificate". Here, you have to select the member whose Vaccine Certificate you need to correct. After that, click on only option "Correction in Certificate".

Step 3: Out the mentioned three, you cam only request correction in two fields. I had to correct the name and gender in the certificate, and chose them. Them, add the correct details that you want on the Vaccine Certificate. The page also shows a disclaimer that yiu can do these minor changes only once, so be cautious not to make a mistake again, as this is full and final.

Click "Continue" after you have filled the correct details.

Step 4: Lastly, you will recieve a final verification tab, that will show both the corrections that you have made. If you have filled in the details correction, proceed to "Submit". Otherwise, you can click the back arrow and go back to Step 3.

If you click "Submit", your details have been submitted. You will soon be able to download the updated certificate.

This software patch is limited to minor errors only. Minor errors here includes Name, Gender and Year of Birth. There are still many mistakes you can't change here like incorrect Aadhar Card number, incorrect vaccine name, wrong dosage date, multiple accounts on different numbers, etc. But, on a plus side, yesterday, the Centre has also issued new guidleines to link passport with the vaccination certficate.
