After the Vaccination registration for 18+ Indians began yesterday at 4 PM, the portals for registration - CoWIN, Aarogya Setu and Umang App crashed. Due to the server down, several users could not register themselves. Further, users were unable to log in through their mobiles numbers on the Aarogya Setu and Umang App. If by any chance a user was able to log in, OTPs were not coming. Thus, they were unable to verify their numbers.
On the other hand, some users received the OTPs but the bar to type in OTP did not display. Further, some users have reported the unavailability of slots. Some stated that the portal displayed that the Minimum age for booking was 45.
The issue persisted even last time when the portals opened up for registration for covid vaccination for people above the age of 45. On March 01, the Government opened the website and the apps for registration. Even then they faced a server down issue minutes into registration.
What is the Government saying?
According to a PIB release, the centre has stated that within three hours of the run, the CoWIN website registered more than 80 lakh people. It also outlined that the app received 383 million API hits, initially as high as 2.7 million hits per minute. Further, the centre stated that they delivered as many as 1.45 crores SMSs. "These statistics indicate that far from crashing or performing slowly, the system is performing without any glitches," it said.
The release also said, "The CoWIN software is a robust, dependable and agile technology. It offers anytime anywhere registration for COVID19 vaccination. The capacity of the servers and other parameters have been ramped up to match the unprecedented scale of immunization so that the COWIN system provide citizen-centric services. Inclusivity, speed and scalability have been kept in mind while designing the unique digital platform with all components being portable, synchronous without excessive and unnecessary dependencies."
