If iPhone X is the 'future of smartphones', what are iPhone 8 and 8 Plus? Honestly, they were doomed even before the launch. The reason is pure common sense. Apple has launched two phones that are strikingly similar to their predecessors- iPhone 7 and 7 Plus and a third model- iPhone X that's a huge leap forward with many new cutting-edge components and features.
Where does that leave iPhone 8? We aren't very sure. For the most part, iPhone 8 and 8 Plus are iterative updates over last year’s models. The updates include new glass front and the back, Qi wireless charging, and of course new AR optimizations.
iPhone X, on the other hand, with its "fluid new user experiences — from unlocking your iPhone with Face ID, to playing immersive AR games, to sharing Animoji in Messages — is the beginning of the next ten years for iPhone.”
So why would an iPhone 7 or 7 Plus owner or for that matter an iPhone 6 owner update to an iPhone 8 that looks so similar and not go for iPhone X instead? Won't people prefer to save a little extra for a futuristic phone that can give them a whole new smartphone experience?
The only one thing that puts iPhone 8 above the X is the price. $1000 is, of course, no small figure and that could be iPhone 8's saving grace. But then with Apple slashing the prices of its previous models, there's yet another battle that iPhone 8 will have to fight.
