This latest development comes just after the government reportedly banned 118 Chinese apps. That move was a follow-up of the earlier ban under which 47 and 59 Chinese apps were banned in favor of protecting “national interest and security” under the provisions of Section 69A of the Information Technology Act. Talking about the ban, Dr Ajay Data, Founder and CEO, VideoMeet stated, "This is not the first time that the government has banned apps that pose a threat to the nation and citizen security. These repeated cycles of app ban highlight the grave consequences these apps have been posing on each of their users' personal data."
Mr Ankit Chaudhari, CEO & Founder, Aiisma adds that this was due for a while now and even more could be in pipeline. He says, "E-commerce, payments, online dating are the primary targeted infrastructures that have access to quite a lot of critical consumer information. What needs to be seen is if Indian alternatives can replace with-profits, these existing platforms rather than just replace them with a burn."

A space for Atma Nirbhar Bharat Mission?
A look at the pattern of this ban shows that most apps are either dating apps, semi-porn or into the supply chain. These give access to a lot of geological and sensitive data to the company and in turn, the country. Thus, promoting Indian apps over Chinee apps should give a major push to such apps. Yet, we can't ignore that these banned apps don't have a large user base. Apps that dominate this user base are mostly American, thus, its impact on "Indian" apps will be negligible. But, it does open doors for a set of developers who can create groundbreaking "Indian alternates".
Dr Ajay adds, "The Indian user base is also supporting the authorities on this front due to the geopolitical tensions our country is facing. The realization of how data breaching can impact their businesses in the long-run has also strengthened. It is an opportune time for Indian tech and IT community to work towards making India's IT framework more resilient. This support to homegrown apps will help us in going global. This is also great for the Atma Nirbhar Bharat mission of the Govt of India. We welcome all such decisions that in turn enhance the security of our country and its denizens, and VideoMeet takes pride in being capable enough to be a part of this indigenous value chain."
