Collaborative competition is the key to future growth and this is how Indian
IT companies should do business in the future, N R Narayana Murthy, chairman of
Infosys Technologies Limited told myiris.com in an exclusive interview at the
sidelines of a press conference in Mumbai today.

Narayana Murthy was in Mumbai to attend a press conference organized by Union
Bank of India to announce its tie up with Infosys and Wipro Infotech for core
banking solutions, wherein, Wipro Infotech will be the system integrator and
Infosys will provide its core banking solution Finacle and its Internet banking
solution Bankaway.

Speaking on the occasion Murthy said, ‘I am very excited about the
opportunity for Infosys to be a strategic technology partner of the leading
public sector bank, Union Bank of India. The continued faith that Indian banks
repose in Infosys, while looking for a dependable, committed partner is very
heartening and we stand committed to meeting the technology requirements of
banks in India.’

Speaking to myiris.com, Murthy said Infosys’ tie-up with Union Bank of
India is a perfect example of how two companies that are competing at one end
can bring in complementary skills to the table to offer customized solutions to
the customer.

‘It has certain advantages as well,’ said Murthy, adding, ‘it brings
the two companies closer as there is close co-operation and also a closer
working relationship between the companies.’

When asked whether the two companies could put in joint bids in the future to
offer solutions to customers either in India or abroad, Narayana Murthy replied
in a positive. ‘Certainly, if the opportunity arises we would be happy to work
together,’ he said.
