Mercedes-Benz has unveiled a high-tech golf cart with the looks of a sports car, three years after it asked fans to submit ideas for a "golf cart of the future."
The final product, designed by the automaker and its project partner- golf cart designer Garia is surely the most advanced golf cart yet.
Innovations like a refrigerator hidden below the rear seat, a golf ball holder beneath the dash and a 10.1-inch touchscreen that displays remaining range and an electronic scorecard elevate it over the simple designs of the regular golf carts.
One can tap on the screen to change driving modes (sport or eco) and to switch the headlights, heater, AC and wipers (among other parts of the cart) on or off. It also displays vehicle's position on a map of the golf course and gives you access to various programs like weather apps.
Besides tablet, the cart also has integrated Bluetooth speakers and Mercedes plans to add smartphone integration in the future, as well.
Then, there is a large, curved windshield and a carbon fiber roof and Mercedes does note that the rear spoiler and carbon diffuser are what it calls a "lighthearted reference" to proper sports cars.
Gorden Wagener, Head of Design at Daimler AG said, “Transferring our automotive design idiom to the Golf Car is therefore something quite natural, and in doing so we have created a product that is both sensual and pure.”
No potential price has been announced, but it is safe to say that the cart will be about as expensive as they come.
