Thanks to Reliance Jio, Indian mobile users are getting new offers on data plans every day from their operators. State-run telecom company BSNL was perhaps first to acknowledge the new competitor in Jio and promised to take on the new rival ‘head-on’.
Walking the line, the state-owned telco, on the occasion of Dussehra, launched a promotional offer under which prepaid customers get double data benefits on four new data Special Tariff Vouchers (STVs).
"Four new Data STVs have been launched on festive season on pan India basis with the validity of 365 days with double data offer from October 10 to 31 October 2016," Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) said in a statement.
Under this offer, Rs. 1,498 will give 18GB instead of 9GB data, Rs. 2,798 will give 36 GB instead of 18GB, Rs. 3,998 will give 60GB data instead of 30GB and Rs. 4,498 will give 80GB data instead of 40GB data.
"BSNL is committed to the benefit of its esteemed customers with utmost reliable and cheaper services," Director (CM) BSNL Board R K Mittal said.
Last week, BSNL also announced plans to ramp up its mobile broadband capacity by up to two-fold to 600 terabytes in a month in an attempt to compete with private players.
"We are seeing an enormous increase in usage of mobile data on our network. We will be increasing our data network capacity to deliver high-speed 3G and other services. In South, we will double the capacity to 600 TB and in other zones, it will be up to 450 TB by November," BSNL Chairman and MD Anupam Shrivastava told PTI.
