Weeks after hackers stole away $60 million worth of bitcoin from cryptocurrency mining startup NiceHash, the Slovenian startup has replaced its CEO.
Marko Kobal, who cofounded NiceHash, stepped down last week from his role as the CEO, announcing it on LinkedIn. “As you are aware, since the recent security breach we at NiceHash have been working round the clock to rebuild our internal systems as well as management structure. I shall now stand aside and allow new management to lead the organization through its next, exciting period of growth – therefore I decided to resign as CEO of NiceHash.”
NiceHash replaced Kobal with Zdravko Poljašević, who didn't previously have a position at the company, according to Delo , a Slovenian newspaper.
NiceHash says that their success in paying out a billion dollars to crypto-currency miners over the last couple of years brought them unwanted attention. The company and security experts found that hackers used an engineers credentials on December 6th to access its payment system, and were able to steal 4,700 bitcoins.
