Barely a day after Tiger Global’s Kalyan Krishnamurthy was appointed as the new CEO of India’s largest online marketplace, Flipkart, its three top-level executives reportedly have called it quits.
Citing a company executive in the know of the things, Economic Times report that e-tailer supply chain unit Ekart's head Saikiran Krishnamurthy, senior vice-president (product) Surojit Chatterjee and chief marketing officer Samardeep Subandh are leaving the company.
The trio had joined Flipkart in 2015 in a hiring steered through by then Flipkart's commerce platform head Mukesh Bansal, who left the company in 2016.
Though the reason for the departures is unknown at the moment, it comes a day after Flipkart announced that Kalyan Krishnamurthy will be the CEO of the main horizontal commerce unit and also oversee Ekart.
Co-founder Binny Bansal has been elevated to Group CEO position who will oversee other businesses, including payments (PhonePe) and fashion (Myntra, Jabong), in addition to finding new growth drivers for the group.
Last year was marked by a lot of lows for Flipkart including various valuation markdowns and many top level executives departure. In the times of funding crunch and big names leaving the company, it will be interesting how Flipkart competes with Amazon and its big war chest.
