‘Apple is planning something big in the auto industry’ rumor is as old as you can remember and to fan the fire comes report of Apple being in talks to acquire supercar maker McLaren. According to the Financial Times report the company is negotiating a deal to buy McLaren or make a strategic investment in the company.
According to FT, Apple isn’t just eyeing the automotive division of McLaren which is famous for its super-fast cars, it also wants to own McLaren Technology Group, the parent company of all things McLaren.

Interestingly the car maker has rubbished the report and issued a statement saying “McLaren is not in discussion with Apple about any potential investment” but did not say whether it had been approached. Apple, as usual, is maintaining the stoic silence over the entire matter. It has never in the first place confirmed its foray into the automotive sector.
Irrespective of rumors and denials, McLaren does perfectly fit into Apple’s purported automobile efforts to build an autonomous, self-driving electric car. The deal could provide Cupertino giant with much need many engineering experts who know how to make cars, engines, chassis and more.
