Apple is planning to upgrade its wearable accessories. According to a Bloomberg report, Apple is working on new models of its AirPod wireless earbuds. One could debut later this year with an updated wireless chip and another with a water-resistant design may come out in 2019.
The headphones will support Siri voice controls, according to the report. A user might be able to say "Hey Siri" to bring up Apple's smart voice assistant while wearing them. Currently, users need to double tap one AirPod to call up Siri. The headphones, internally known as B288, will include an upgraded Apple-designed wireless chip for managing Bluetooth connections.
As per the report, Apple is also planning to launch another model that would feature a water-resistant design, built to withstand rain and splashes. It is unlikely that these AirPods would survive being submerged in water for long periods of time, but they could easily handle a sudden downpour or an unexpected dip. These AirPods are planned to release in 2019.
There are no talks on the price of the new AirPods but we can expect it to be priced somewhat similar to the earlier AirPods or even more than that.
