We still have more than a month’s time before Apple launches its next version of iPhone in September and God only knows, how many more stories or rumors are in store for us in this waiting period. Must be wondering why I didn’t write iPhone 7 instead of ‘next version’. Simply because I don’t know if it’s going to be iPhone 7 or iPhone 6SE as the latest rumors suggest.
According to latest reports, Apple has decided to save the name iPhone 7, and instead call the new handset iPhone 6se, because it features smaller, iterative changes rather than a radical redesign.
There is a wide consensus that the phone will look very similar to the iPhone 6s, but with the antenna bands moved to the edges, a larger camera, and no 3.5mm headphone jack. Apple is also expected to ditch the 16GB size and increase the battery size of the handset.
The report, on German website Apfelpage.de cites supply-chain sources in China and claims that Apple has already produced packages with the 'iPhone 6SE' branding.
The news sounds pretty much in line with Apple's launch of the iPhone SE last March, which was an upgraded version of the smaller iPhone 5s. And it follows suggestions that Apple would hold off its next major iPhone update until 2017 for the handset's tenth anniversary.
The tech giant may also change its product launch conventions once again this year, and release the new phones on September 16, according to prominent leaker Evan Blass, more than a week earlier than the iPhone 6s, which was released on September 25, 2015.
Just to clarify, this refers to the retail release, not the launch event. To be even more specific, it should happen on Friday, Sept. 16th.
