Apple has published a letter where the tech giant is apologizing for the bad experience faced by older iPhone owners. The firm had announced that it throttles phones to extend their life and save them from shutting down as batteries age and become less effective.
The firm faced multiple lawsuits from iPhone users around the world. The letter read, "We apologize. There’s been a lot of misunderstanding about this issue, so we would like to clarify and let you know about some changes we’re making." The letter further read, "First and foremost, we have never- and would never do anything to intentionally shorten the life of any Apple product, or degrade the user experience to drive customer upgrades. Our goal has always been to create products that customers love, making iPhones last as long as possible is an important part of that."
Additionally, the tech giant has slashed the prices of battery replacement for iPhone 6 or later. Earlier, the price for battery replacement was $79. The firm has brought the price down to $29. Anybody whose battery needs to be replaced can do it at discounted prices, starting in late January and available worldwide through December 2018. The company has not announced the prices for battery replacement around the world.
The company has also announced an iOS software update with new features that give users more visibility into the health of their iPhone's battery so that they can see for themselves if the condition of the battery is affecting the performance of the device.
