The coronavirus pandemic has affected the world economy. Employees have to work-from-home for their companies. This makes it harder, but companies need to prioritise the health of workers. In the same case, Amazon India and Twitter have allowed their employees to work from home till early-October.
Amazon India
On April 28. Amazon had allowed its US-based companies to structure out work-from-home till October. This, though, was not the case for India. In a recent development, even India-based Amazon companies have given employees the leisure to work from home.
The number of coronavirus cases is increasing in India. While yesterday, PM Modi announced a relief package, but nothing much about the Lockdown, e-commerce major Amazon India is allowing all its employees to continue working from home until October 2. The company said that they prioritise the health of their employees. They will also follow local government guidance.
But, its rival, Flipkart isn't doing the same. Employees will return to the Bengaluru offices in phases. It so happens that they are not able to work efficiently due to limited infrastructure.
On Tuesday, Twitter sent an email to all its employees and mandated WFH until at least September. Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey sent this email in the wake of the rising Coronavirus cases in the world. According to a comment received by The Guardian, Twitter was one of the first companies to go to a work-from-home model due to Covid-19. But it does not anticipate to be the first one to return to its offices.
They mandated WFH from March 11, and the employees who want to return will have to wait till September. The good news, though, is employees who prefer to work-from-home, can do so indefinitely.
Further, the company has suspended almost all employee's business travel. It even cancelled all in-person events until 2021. Further, it gave the employees allowances to buy home office supplies.
Unlike Flipkart, Twitter's rivals, Google and Facebook have also mandated an indefinite work-from-home period.
