Though Amazon was a late entrant (Feb’12) to the e-commerce world of India, it has outnumbered the overall web traffic of Flipkart, which started its journey in 2007.
According to Kotak Institutional Equities from web traffic analytics company SimilarWeb, Amazon India generated 33 percent to 62 percent more monthly traffic than the homegrown e-tailer Flipkart between Nov '15 to May '16. Including both PCs and mobile, Amazon India had an average monthly user visit of around 180 million, whereas Flipkart's number stands at 120 million, which is far behind Amazon.
Though Flipkart is ahead with a huge lead in downloads and usage, the Seattle-based online retail giant is seen to be fast catching up. As per Kotak, Amazon India was leading Flipkart in app ranking in June on Google Play store. These rankings are based on downloads and other features such as frequency of interaction with the app, number of backlinks, number and quality of ratings, and number of uninstalls.
It was in February, that Flipkart's app ranking dropped from the top 10 ranks in Google Playstore, whereas Amazon India scaled up a few positions. Conversely, Flipkart said in February that it outdid 50 million installs on Google Playstore. Amazon's app downloads fall between 10 and 50 million.
In June, Amazon India was at No. 14 and Flipkart was two positions below that at No. 16.
Even though Flipkart brags about huge lead in mobile app downloads and usage, rankings say it all!
