Amazon could soon be launching a new version of Echo with a touch-screen and front-facing camera. According to some leaked images via AFTVNews,  the new Alexa-powered device will feature a 7-inch touch screen, with speakers placed below the display.

The picture also supports a  Bloomberg report  from November that claimed the device will have a touchscreen that "tilts upwards." Later, noted tipster Evan Blass also tweeted a high-resolution image of the purported speaker, confirming that Amazon’s next-generation Echo smart speaker will indeed have a touchscreen.

Besides the touchscreen, the leaked image of the device, codenamed Echo Knight also suggests there could be a front-facing camera for video calls. 'It looks like the device is angled upwards slightly,' the AFTVNews site said. 'This would allow it to be used while standing above it if, for example, it were sitting on a countertop.'

It’s unclear if the device is running Amazon’s Fire OS, or a newly built operating system. Earlier this week it introduced Echo Look, a 'style assistant' smart camera priced at $200.

Amazon’s new Echo device has been buzzing in the rumour-mills for quite some time. The Wall Street Journal too last year reported that the touchscreen-enabled Amazon Echo would feature a 7-inch display, better speakers, and radically different design. AFTVNews reports it'll cost between $200 and $300, and that it'll be released sometime in May.
Notably, Apple is also expected to launch its own  Siri-powered Echo competitor as soon as the upcoming annual Worldwide Developers Conference in  June. It’s being suggested that the device’s design will be heavily inspired by Apple’s Mac Pro, and the UE Boom’s mesh styling.
