After introducing Alexa to iPhone users by making the feature available within the retailer’s main shopping app this March, Amazon is now rolling out the voice assistant to its Android app, starting next week.
Echo device owners began seeing notifications from Amazon noting the feature rollout, and the company confirmed toTechCrunch today that the feature is indeed coming this week.
Alexa in the Android app works much the same as it does on Echo. It can perform tasks like check the weather, traffic and news, tell jokes, stream music, track past Amazon orders, and even control smart home gadgets. Alexa on Android can also perform various skills, like launch the Netflix app and order you Starbucks.
The main Amazon app's massive userbase is a great way to reach potential Alexa/Echo customers who otherwise have Siri or Google Assistant at their disposal.
The feature isn't live for everyone on Android just yet, but you should see it within the next few days.
