Airbnb has acquired the services of former Amazon Prime VP Greg Greeley to lead the home-sharing startup’s Homes unit. According to the company, Greeley will take a position in Airbnb as "president of Homes". He will report directly to Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky.
Greeley announced his exit in a LinkedIn letter. He wrote, "Words can't express how excited I am to join the Airbnb team. I've used Airbnb for years, and the chance to work here and expand the positive impact its community is having around the world is a once in a lifetime opportunity."
He further wrote, "It was Jeff Bezos' heartfelt 1997 Letter to Shareholders that ultimately drew me to Amazon, and I have not regretted that decision for even a nanosecond."
Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky, said, "Even among an amazing and diverse slate of candidates, Greg stood out for his phenomenal customer-first approach, global operations excellence, and a decades-long commitment to developing and mentoring talented leaders."
Greeley said he was leaving the company and it was a time to take a "different challenge". In the past, Greeley was a key executive during his Amazon days and helped create the membership program that has become a key cornerstone of its online offering and launch it across the globe. He previously ran both international expansions at Amazon and Amazon's European division. Greeley was most recently working on integrating Whole Foods with Amazon Prime membership.
