By this time, we all know what plastic and other non-bio-degradable stuff is doing to our environment. Many governments, NGOs and companies are already working in this direction for spreading awareness and acting towards making Earth a Green planet. Joining this list of doers is Adidas that has launched biodegradable footwear made from a super-strong form of synthetic spider silk called Biosteel.

At Bio-fabricate conference in New York, Adidas unveiled a new shoe featuring biodegradable fabric that’s designed to break down within hours of its disposal using a water and enzyme solution.

According to Gizmodo, a digestion enzyme called proteinase will cause the protein-based yarn to decompose within 36 hours.

The Futurecraft prototype is made entirely from the bio-silk material, "the strongest fully natural material available," and because it's natural, it biodegrades cleanly in the soil, according to a press release by Adidas.

Manufactured by German-based Company AMsilks, the material is 15 percent lighter than conventional silk fibres. According to Wired report, "the material is made in a lab by fermenting genetically modified bacteria that is then spun into a thread with a high tensile strength."

With Ultra Boost sole and an understated gold tint, Adidas' new shoes are able to give you two years of support, the company says. Adidas hopes to have a commercial product ready by next year.

“This process is 100 percent natural,” an Adidas spokesperson said. “The shoe would not dissolve if worn in rainy weather conditions, for example, as the presence of proteinase is all important to the process.”

Recently, Adidas also unveiled a new line of sneakers that are made from recycled plastic taken from the ocean.
