MANHASSET: Fresco Microchip Inc, which is into development of RF, mixed-signal and digital signal processing chips, is sprucing up operations with funds to the tune of $10 million flowing into its coffers.
The company, known for its demodulators and IF processors which find use by manufacturers of television tuner ‘cans’, has been funded by Ottawa-based Celtic House Venture Partners and Ventures West.
The RF, mixed-signal and digital signal processing chips produced by the company has been in demand with the television receivers now housed in a metal enclosure called the RF tuner module, also known as ‘can’ tuner. The RF tuner module filters and demodulates analog and digital broadcasts to produce signals that can be processed into a picture, a report said elaborating on the process.
Fresco had recently been in the news for entering into a partnership deal with Entropic Communications, Inc. The Fresco-Entropic combine had come together to develop silicon-based hybrid receivers for next-generation televisions. While Fresco makes its FM1150 which are compatible with both silicon tuners as well as traditional ‘can’ tuners, and offer commendable performance, Entropic is into production of its EN4020 multi-mode silicon tuner supports worldwide standards.
