TAIPEI, TAIWAN: The card-reader and notebook-webcam product lines of Alcor Micro Corporation have entered the supply chain of Foxconn Electronics, the registered trade name for the Taiwan-based Hon Hai Precision Industry Company Limited.

Alcor Micro Corporation, based in Taipei, Taiwan, is a fabless IC design company engaged in designing, developing and marketing highly integrated semiconductor chips and software solutions for the PC peripheral and consumer electronics markets.

Chang Chi-Tung, general manager of Alcor Micro Corporation, said in a statement that the company expects its market share of card-reader controller chips to grow considerably in the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) market, with the number of customers as well as shipment-volumes going up.

Alcor Micro Corporation is the only supplier of card-reader and notebook webcam chips for Foxconn Electronics.

According to Alcor Micro Corporation, a total of 60 per cent of the company's card-reader controller chips are used in notebooks, 20 per cent used in desktops, and 20 per cent in printers.

The company says it shipped 9 million flash disk drive controllers in September 2009. Out of this, around 3 million were shipped to customers in Taiwan, and 5 million-6 million to customers in China.

Since NAND flash chips are in short supply mains short, Alcor Micro Corporation says it its revenues for the fourth quarter are likely to fall by 10 per cent-15 per cent sequentially.

Regarding SD card controller chips, the company has decided to focus on the white-box market. For the SSD market, the volume-production of related products is scheduled to start in early 2010.
